Let’s now talk about sarees. Saree are the heritage and the ancient tradition which have been passed down to several generations from the beginning. Saree is considered as the pride of any person who wears it. A saree can make a women look thousand times prettier than a normal day.

Sarees are considered as 5 yards of grace and beauty and there’s no other attire in this universe that can beat the elegance of a saree. It is the most precious culture that has been carrying forward from several generations.

When it comes to hand painted designer sarees it begun in the 2800-1800BC in the regions of Indian sub-continent around 5th millennium BC. It started in the Indian Silicon Valley and the region of Isfahan, Iran and In the India in the southern part of the country i.e., Andhra Pradesh.

The most known hand painted designer sarees for the bride or for the common people is the art of kalamkari and the word kalam means pen, first designs are drawn with hand on the cotton sarees and then hand crafted by the craftsman.

The cotton sarees are cultivated in the Indian sub-continent. Then the sarees are sent all over the country. Basically, the kalamkari work is a customized art and people get to choose the kind of design they want for their sarees.

When it comes to the history of sarees, it was first heard in the Rig Veda – A Hindu book of hymns. Saree is a kind of a draping material at the beginning but then the world evolved and developed and the attire and draping of the sarees changed and got enhanced

Kalamkari work is not an easy task to do. There is a lot of process that goes behind making a kalamkari designer saree and there are a total of 23 steps that are involved in the process of making a work saree such as blocking, painting, dying, bleaching and many more.

When it comes to the origin of the hand painted designer sarees in India, it first started in the south state called Andhra Pradesh. There are also types in the kalamkari making. The two types of Kalamkari are the Srikalahasti and Machilipatnam.

As the time changed the process of the kalamkari work has been more developed and made better. The work is now done with the help of the digital files which are printed separately, and the outcome of the art is the hand painted designer saree for bride to which will make her wedding day the most memorable and an even special one to always cherish.

There are also many types of art which comes under the saree making process. The most famous one which I have heard of apart from the kalamkari is the “maggam” work which is embroidered with the bare hands.
